Crossbows and Catapults, Remastered.
Recently, I bought this reboot of crossbows and catapults for my 4 year old son. He loves it, and I enjoyed playing with it with him. Though we both agreed the “crossbows” leave a bit to be desired, especially compared to the vintage ones I recall from my youth.
However, the vintage sets command a steep nostalgia premium.
(I haven’t actually done the math, but that’s not the point)
The new inferior crossbow, in all it’s cheap, hard to manipulate if you’re a small human glory.
However! Recently I added a resin printer to my collection and a quick google lead me to discover some nerd had 3D scanned and rebuilt all of the parts to the original game. Normally, I’d link to the source STL files, but I don’t want to rock the boat in case there are legal/ IP issues that get lawyers involved to kill the fun. Anyways, it isn’t hard to find, and it prints like a dream.
I’m also teaching myself how to paint. Poorly. But it’s still cool and way more powerful/fun to play with.
Of course, with a full set of parts available, I kept going.
Each team’s colorways are complete.
Still have some work to do finishing painting the rest of the armies, but it’s been a pleasant way to spend a couple of weeks in the basement, and I’m looking forward to knocking them around with Hubert after I get a coat of matte varnish on everything.
